London-based, Scottish artist Robert Montgomery creates these enormous poetic billboards set in simple type to fill urban landscapes with a little dose of poetry and magic. The ambiguous and often melancholy lines are further emphasized when lit up with crisp neon or set on fire to burn away into the night, with letters slowly dropping off into ashes as they char.
Montgomery also plasters over billboard ads to create longer print pieces of poetry, as a way of re-appropriating public space from the grip of ads, ads, ads. I love that this artistic takeover includes smart doses of poetry and typography– a perfect combination. [Via Fubiz.]
