The Smarin design workshop is the laboratory of French designer Stephanie Marin, where she creates eco-minded objects for the house and home. Her Livingstones product is a series of enormous pebbles and rocks that are soft enough to jump into: made out of 100% virgin wool, the muted grey fabric mimics and plays on the natural colors and shapes of nature.
It’s clearly quite a feat to produce, as the production time on her website starts at 8 weeks. I also love the playful photos of kids throwing themselves onto the rocks with abandon. From the Smarin’s description:
A high quality surrealistic set, practical as a floor cushion.
Oversized pebbles, a resting area with varying sizes and shapes that can be arranged according to your mood, for contemporary interiors.
Pebbles as a fanciful landscape for ideal and permanent holidays, which can be transformed into an enjoyable domestic game.
The pebbles add an unexpected shape and rhythm to the rooms that they are photographed in, since they remind me of nature but are clearly manmade. I’d love to see these piled up in the corner of a kids’ room, with stuffed animals and other soft objects peeking out.
