I’ve met people who carried around plastic googly eyes to stick on small objects, but these large, ping-pong sized styrofoam ball eyes take street art to a whole new level. German designer Timm Schneider went out of his way to plant and photograph these eyes on everyday, mundane street objects, and the resulting series titled “They Live” is irresistibly appealing.
I like how these objects all appear a little offbeat: something about the round eyes make them all look slightly dazed and deranged. Its especially funny to me that someone submitted a photo of them posing next to the “Cookie Monster” trash can– this is how creativity highlights the humble objects.
If you go to Schneider’s home page here, you’ll see that the eyeball icon for this street art project actually follows your mouse. A clever touch to an amusing art project, I really like it!
