Somewhere in LA, there is a co-op woodshop called the Knowhow shop, and they handcrafted this massive 400-pound wooden comb bike rack for the city of Roanoke, VA. The comb is part functional bike rack and part public art, and you can easily lock your bike to the single strand of wiry “hair” that weaves through the comb’s teeth.

The Knowhow Shop alone is a pretty cool idea (you pay a fee to use the woodshop/buy materials/learn, and you get to keep what you make) and this particular product of the co-op is a wonder to see– I love how unexpected it looks, to see a comb holding all your bikes!

From the Knowhow shop blog:

The 400 pound comb is handcrafted out of Mangaris using full mortise and tenon construction, while the hair is made from powder coated steel.

My one question is how well the comb will hold up to the weather– it would be a shame to see the art warp or rot after being barraged with rain or snow (or vandals.) [Via The Fox is Black.]
