Talk about attention to detail in painstaking stitches– Jillian Tamaki designed three covers for some Penguin Threads Deluxe Classics, using her embroidery skills and a heavy dose of imagination.

The Secret Garden, Emma, and Black Beauty get re-imagined in colorful stitching, from the wraparound covers to the french flaps. From Jillian Tamaki’s blog:

I can’t tell you how happy I am to finally be able to share this project with you. It pretty much consumed my life for the first 2 months of this year.

Penguin Classics! What a dream project. When I first did my Monster Quilt, I said I wouldn’t take commissions in embroidery… unless Penguin called me for a Penguin Classics cover. Sometimes you get what you wish for (times three).

The covers alone are wonderful, but the full wraparound covers do the pieces justice– although I wish there were macro shots of the stitching details:

She included some beautiful in-process shots of the covers here:

There are all these minute publishing necessities stitched into the covers, such as the Penguin logo or the blank space on the back for a barcode and retail price listing. Everything is really cleverly integrated into the piece– bravo!
