Irina Werning re-photographs people to mimic their childhood photos perfectly in this series titled “Back to the Future”: their clothes, hair, poses, and even photographic filters are duplicated as closely as possible, so that each person’s aging over the years is only more heavily emphasized. From her website:
I love old photos. I admit being a nosey photographer. As soon as I step into someone else’s house, I start sniffing for them. Most of us are fascinated by their retro look but to me, it’s imagining how people would feel and look like if they were to reenact them today… A few months ago, I decided to actually do this. So, with my camera, I started inviting people to go back to their future.
I have a slew of old photos from my childhood that involve sofa-floral Sunday dresses (you know, the kind of pattern that you usually find on an old aunt’s sofa, except mine had extra lace) and boys’ hand-me-downs. I’m pretty sure my parents have kept quite a few of the dresses, so I could hypothetically do this too. Hypothetically.
