Job, Joris & Marieke is a three-person animation and character design team based in the Netherlands with some of the cutest, most creative characters I’ve ever seen. They have a wonderful sense of texture– everything from matte rubber to shiny plastic to yeti fluff is animated in impeccable detail, and every creature that they come up with is super playful and lively.
Check out their fantastic (and comprehensive) demo reel here if you want to see more– or, I’ve included two of my favorite characters below, for your viewing pleasure.
The first video is a short that Job, Joris & Marieke made featuring Theo the Octopus:
This is a promotional film for the city of Eindhoven. Theo the giant pink octopus has committed culture in the streets of Eindhoven!
You can actually buy Theo as a vinyl toy here too, in all of his pink, shiny glory:
Or, for an extra dose of wonderful design, look at this music video featuring Manfred the Happy Camper– he’s a yeti on a camping trip, and he’s also the mascot for Happy Camper Music, a musical side project by one of the designers in Job, Joris & Marieke. I’m in love with Manfred’s fluffy hair!
Manfred’s holiday leads to a series of awkward camping moments, but that doesn’t spoil the fun, because Manfred is a Happy Camper.
What makes this music video even funnier is this shady outtake of Manfred’s horrifying behind-the-scenes experience, which was used as a teaser:
We nearly died laughing watching the teaser, especially after having pored over the adorable music video. Poor Manfred!
If you want more beautiful animation from them, take a good long look at their demo reel here (and look out for some of our other favorites, like the confetti monster).
