This series of Mercedes Benz ads have left me speechless: what a wonderful way to illustrate the experience of owning a luxury car, which appeals to both your left brain and your right brain. The ad is split neatly down the middle, separating the brain into its clean, analytical left side and colorful, explosive right side. The text on the ad reads:
Left brain: I am the left brain. I am a scientist. A mathematician. I love the familiar. I categorize. I am accurate. Linear. Analytical. Strategic. I am practical. Always in control. A master of words and language. Realistic. I calculate equations and play with numbers. I am order. I am logic. I know exactly who I am.
Right brain: I am the right brain. I am creativity. A free spirit. I am passion. Yearning. Sensuality. I am the sound of roaring laughter. I am taste. The feeling of sand beneath bare feat. I am movement. Vivid colors. I am the urge to paint on an empty canvas. I am boundless imagination. Art. Poetry. I sense. I feel. I am everything I wanted to be.
I like the ad’s subtle branding of the logo tucked into the corner– the illustrations draws you in, and then makes you curious as to who produced it. [Images via Scary Ideas.]

Obviously the artist had more fun drawing the right side. The left side of the brain looks dead in the first and last spreads. lol

Well, I think that’s exactly what the artist wants to show us!
While the left brain concentrates on calculating, logic etc. the right brain consists of all the different colours, forms, images and so on!

While I am mostly right brain myself, it’s interesting that Mercedes doesn’t say they are more left than right brain. In fact, they are a mix of both, leaning more towards the left with super refined technology. They build/engineer/ and innovate cars that speak of control, precision & elegance. I’m not sure the illustrations on either side reflect that as well as they could have. The illustrations on the right IMHO suggest the typical American car full of flash and little real substance. The left side does seem duller and less exciting. In all, I think the illustrations could have better reflected the Mercedes brand.

Perhaps a bit too literal…

A great idea but I agree with some of the previous commenters – there should have been more on the left side of the brain. Automobiles more than most of our everyday objects are primarily engineered – none of that fun stuff on the right would exist if the machine didn’t work. And Mercedes Benz more than most car brands should be trying to show the equal balance it’s brand has appealing to both sides of the brain.
I love the idea but these look like mockups, comps for an ad campaign – maybe an art school project?
